of Tunstead

Oliver inherited the major part, of yearly rent 5/2d, of the land oftotal yearly rent 7/-, at Tunstead, which his father, Lawrence, hadreceived from Richard (6L2) once he secured the Tunstead estate.
This was inherited on condition that Oliver paid out £30 to personsnominated in his father's will, now lost.
To meet this he had to mortgage and eventually sell half this land.
This mortgage reveals that there was coal on this land, for one of theplaces was called "colepitt hill" and another "hyle field". Theseplaces were obviously located where Hyle Coal Pit stood until 1947.
Besides this the mortgagee allowed Henry Ormerod (6L1), then ofWolfenden, i.e. Oliver's youngest brother, to make a "via carbonari"(stated to mean a coal pit way) with a fence there.
Henry was also feoffee to Oliver's will, and was a party to the saleof the other half of the land at the Hyle by John (7L1), Oliver'ssecond son.
