In a 1746 Court Roll transaction there appears a John, who describeshimself as "formerly of Haslingden but now or late of the Isle ofMan".
He mortgaged all the Grane land, of yearly rent 11/9d for £388.
There was no great trading port in the Isle of Man, but it was a placewhere one was probably immune from arrest for debt.Dead by 1763.
In 1763 the jurors at the Halmot Court reported that John Ormerod theelder of Haslingden Grane had died and that John Ormerod of Read,chapman, was his grandson and heir of full age and ought to beadmitted to the Grane land of yearly rent 11/9d.
