Esther Ormerod

From notes made by Malcolm Ormerod:
"Esther Ormerod - born 1858
She was only 5 years old when her mother died.
1871 Census: living with William & Martha Dent as a Boarder.
1881 Census: living with William Dent, as his niece, at Extwistle MillCottage - together with Ellen Ormerod (19 years) and Joseph Ormerod (7years).
Present at the death of William Dent, who died 3 December 1881 at HoltHill, as recorded on his death certificate.
N.B. Ann Ormerod lived at Holt Hill in 1881.
Joseph Ormerod is the son of Margaret Ormerod.
Esther Ormerod married Thomas Frankland in 1884 and had four childrenof her own.

Esther lived with her sister Ellen, her uncle, William Dent, in the1881 Census, and Joseph Ormerod b.1874.
She married Thomas Frankland in 1884 and had four children of her own- 1901 Census."


Herbert Hodder Roberts

of Westow Croft, Kirkham Abbey, Yorkshire

Joined the Royal Marines in 1879.

Left the army in 1901, and went to live at Westow Croft, near Malton,where Sir John Ormerod Scarlett Thursby had built a stud.

In 1905 he became manager of Sir John's racing stables.

James Thursby Roberts

Second Lieutenant
2nd Bn, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regt)

Died of wounds sustained at the Battle of the Somme.
Buried at Netley Military Cemetery, Hampshire. Grave Reference:Officers'. 1818.

In July 1916 2nd Bn, The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regt) formed partof the 91st Brigade of the 7th Division.
Between 1-13 July 1916 the division was involved in the Battle ofAlbert, including the capture of Montauban, Mametz, Fricourt,Contalmaison and La Boisselle.
Between 14-17 July it was involved in the Battle of Bazentin,including the capture of Longueval, Trones Wood and Ovillers.
