Lawrence Ormerod

of Ormerod

In charter - 17 Henry VI 1438.

Matthew de Homerodes

Mentioned in 1270. Witness to a deed in this year, according to VCHL(1270 55 Henry III).

Being used to witnessing deeds implies that Matthew and Gilbert wereof somewhat higher status than the average De Lacy tenants.

Adam de Ormeroyd

Held land in socage from Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, 4 Edwd II,1311 (8 acres).
This land held in Cliviger.

Tille de Ormeroyd

Held land in socage from Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, 4 Edwd II,1311 (20 acres).

Whitaker's History of Whalley (4 ed.) claims that Tille should havebeen named Gilbert, and was one of three brothers, with Adam andMokok.
All described as de Ormeroyde.

According to an inquest of 1311 both Tille (Gilbert) and Adam are saidto have held lands in Cliviger in socage from Henry de Lacy, Earl ofLincoln.

In Whitaker's pedigree the later Ormerods are shown as being descendedfrom Tille.

Gilbertus de Ormeroyd

of Ormerod

Mentioned from 1301-25.
First of the Ormerods to hold land at Ormerod 'in capite'.

Gilbert held 20 acres from the de Lacys according to the free tenantslist of 1311.

Gilbert was a witness to several deeds of the Stansfield family in1306. (John Stansfield, 1885)

VCHL states that a Gilbert de Ormerod, son of Matthew, was the witnessof several deeds between 1301 and 1325.

In charter of 9 Edward II 1316.

A FamilySearch Ancestral File submitted by Medieval Families, c/oFamily History Dept, 50 E North Temple St, Salt Lake City UT, linksGilbert and Tille.
This File suggests a birth date of about 1246, death date before 1311,and marriage in about 1276.
These dates have not been added to Gilbertus' personal details here,as there is the ambiguity as to whether he and Tille are one and thesame.
