Horatio was killed in action on 28 July 1917, and is buried in Brandhoek New Military Cemetery (Grave Ref. I. D. 7.), located 6.5 km west of Ypres town centre.

During the First World War, Brandhoek was within the area comparatively safe from shell fire, which extended beyond Vlamertinghe Church. Field ambulances were posted there continuously. Until July 1917 burials had been made in the Military Cemetery, but the arrival of the 32nd, 3rd Australian and 44th Casualty Clearing Stations in preparation for the new Allied offensive launched that month made it necessary to open the New Military Cemetery.

The Soldiers Died in the Great War Database records that Horatio was born in Livesey and resided in Blackburn. Horatio enlisted in the Army in Darwen.

Horatio served with 30th Siege Battery of the Royal Garrison Artillery. Royal Garrison Artillery Siege Batteries consisted of the largest guns and howiters - mounted on massive fixed concrete emplacements or railways, and consequently more or less static.

He is commemorated on a war memorial in St Francis' Church, St Francis Road, Blackburn.
