He was killed in action on 2 April 1918, aged 20, during the German Spring Offensive of 1918, and has no known grave.

The UK, Army Register of Soldiers' Effects, records that he died on a date between 23 March 1918 and 2 April 1918.

At the time of Tom's death, 2nd Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment, formed part of 25th Brigade, 8th Division.

Tom's name is commemorated on the Pozières Memorial (Panels 42 to 43).

The Soldiers Died in the Great War Database records that Tom was born in Bacup, and enlisted in the Army in Burnley.
