The National Roll of the Great War - Section XI - Manchester records the following for A.E. Ormrod, of 1st/7th Battalion,  Manchester Regiment.

"He volunteered in May 1915, and three months later proceeded to the Western Front. In this theatre of hostilities he played a prominent part in many important engagements, including Loos, St Eloi, Ploegsteert Wood, and Vimy Ridge, and in actions on the Ancre and Somme fronts, before he was unfortunately killed by a shell in 1918. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

The National Roll of the Great War gives Albert's address is given as 21 Prescott Street, West Gorton, Manchester.

At the time of  Albert's death 1st/7th Battalion formed part of 127th Brigade, 42nd (East Lancashire) Division.

The Battalion at this time were deployed in the area of Bucquoy, northeast of Puisieux.

In The Seventh Manchesters - July 1916 to March 1919, by S.J. Wilson, Albert is recorded in the Battalion's list of casualties as "276288 Ormerod, Pte. A. E.".

The book contains a full account of the 7th Manchesters service between July 1916 and March 1919, including the German Spring Offensive of 1918, during which Albert was killed.

Albert has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

The Soldiers Died in the Great War Database records that Albert was born in West Gorton, Manchester, and enlisted in the Army in Manchester.

Albert's brother, John Robert Ormrod, was also killed during in 1918 and has no known grave.
